I am a businesswoman who is endlessly motivated by empowering other women in business. Seeing another woman succeed is like seeing a part of me succeed all over again and it fills me with radiant energy. But it doesn’t stop there. I am passionate about learning from other women as well. We can’t expect to have all the answers, and putting ego aside has opened me up to a vast expanse of business knowledge I may not have gained had I not been receptive. This is why I took so much from my recent visit to SuperShe Island, founded by Kristina Roth, who sold her multi-million dollar consulting business, Matisia Consultants, just shy of three years ago. Kristina is now on a mission to unite badass women from around the world on her exclusive retreats. I was thrilled to take part in the last week of this summer’s SuperShe summer on Kristina’s private island, SuperShe Island, a female-only resort located on the island of Fjärdskär in the Gulf of Finland, one and half hour drive from Helsinki.
The retreat was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.
The serene island is so still, the calm is palpable, and you feel completely immersed in life amongst the elements, sunning on the sand, diving into the waves—even bathing in the forest. The natural stillness is punctuated by women’s excited voices as they discuss business and personal strategy, successes, failures, and beyond.
The accommodations on the island are luxurious yet simple.
Guests stay in lux traditional Finnish cabins, similar to those on the archipelago of Finland. Smooth, knotty pine creates stark angles, allowing minimal, functional furniture to stand out. Living in this environment for a time played on my deep appreciation for simple design that blends seamlessly into its environment.
In structures like this, the sunlight’s movements throughout the day changes the feel of the home.
And ample windows bring the striking landscape into the structure. This reminded me of the inherent blend between nature and design, much like the earthy tones of Italy I recently explored.
We consumed things that nourished our bodies. We lived on low carb, dairy free, farm-to-table food prepared by super talented catering nutrition Chef Camilla and we were alcohol-free during our stay. We ate either outside on a large deck overlooking the baltic seas or in the lounge of an open-air Cabin.
We participated in yoga, yoga sculpt classes led by amazing power yoga and fitness instructor, Katie, that took place either on a deck side or in the yoga yurt.
We also went kayaking and were able to decompress in the luxurious Finnish sauna, swim in the cold Baltic sea, or receive full body massages and facials.
In the evenings, calm, happy and satiated.
we often gathered in the lounge or on the terrace watching the sunset and then under the stars or on the beach listening to lapping waves, conversation became more intimate and honest.
Now, I am back home feeling replenished, serene, and healthy. I took two valuable lessons from this trip.
I learned that sometimes it is so good to get away and take time for yourself to stop and reflect on your life and see where you are. I also came to realize how special the unity of woman empowerment is. It starts with something as simple as having a group of women who meet to share experiences and spent time together I have a deep appreciation for Kristina’s goals to create an environment a women-only retreat that allowed them just to be and have time for organic and structured conversations. She is a woman who embodies “badass” and the willingness to create a meaningful environment for female empowerment is what is most important above all comments. I am grateful she took the time to answer my questions and can’t wait for more SuperShe time in New York or elsewhere.
A Brief Interview With Kristina Roth
LCD: When did you first discover your passion for badass women?
KR: July 2016
LDC: Who would you say was your first female role model?
KR: My mom, but she was a role model for the good stuff and the bad 🙂
LCD: Can you pinpoint the moment when you realized it was time to take the leap and pivot from a networking model to more of a community model, now known as the golden standard of female empowerment retreats?
KR: Beginning of 2017 while doing a mini-retreat in Hawaii
LCD: Explain the application process and why it is important to you that women are already emotionally and financially independent before taking part in the program.
KR: The application process is simple, you sign up on the webpage and send us a short description for why you would like to join. It is enough of you want to become independent and this is the first step.
LCD: Why do you feel it’s important to remove women so completely from their environment to journey through your program?
KR: The island is a beautiful framework and helps set the tone for reinvention and change.
LCD: Is there one stand-out success story you feel comfortable sharing?
KR: There are so many really and they all touch body mind and soul. Tangible KPIs since I am a scientist 😉 are weight loss e.g. 9 pounds and 6% body fat.
LCD: Do you feel there are things women can incorporate into their homes that may give them a taste of the sense of alignment and empowerment SuperShe Island provides?
KR: Yes and we are working on the online portal which launches this November to give you a taste of the island at home.
LCD: Ultimately, what is your hope for women of the world?
KR: To inspire each other to create amazing and meaningful things together!
