Although driven by creativity, I am someone who loves diving into processes to problem solve and deliver concepts. I am still amazed how my time as a director has built the foundation for a career that has flowered far beyond the stage. Each design project gives me a chance to create and direct a process that combines form and function while allowing me to gift my clients with alignment, consciousness, and the joy of being fully present.

Here I share a master bathroom design, part of a full home renovation, that replenishes and restores.

Assessment

After defining the constraints and necessary function of a project’s space, based on time, circulation and ideation, we create an integrative interior design concept. Here, we define new use of space and light, while finding a functional flow aligned with our client’s lifestyle. We deliver a holistic space and integrate a look and feel that encourage our clients to have a deeper connection with their interiors.

Concept

At the onset of this master bathroom renovation, our client expressed a desire to feel close to nature with an airy spa concept. Once we assessed the space and budget constraints, we move on to our research phase. Following the initial consultation and several follow-up meetings where we define our client’s vision and lifestyle, we move beyond ideation to clarify our vision to a concept. We presented our concept solution with an ideal layout, products, textures, and recommendations, all to be functional as well as in alignment with our client’s wishes.

Narrowing the Modern Minimalist Spa Concept

The design development stage involves ongoing communications with our clients as well as a sequence of revised architectural design aspects, building, construction and renovation with the construction team. As the bathroom project progressed, we met with our client at varying stages to make sure the flow and form are aligned and pleasing to our client.

Installation

These images give you an inside look on the installation process. First, plumbing fittings and fixtures and other hard goods are installed by the construction team.

Construction

Once hard goods are installed and polished, soft goods are introduced into the space. This includes biophilic elements that draw out a holistic, curative feel and responds to our client’s wish to feel close to nature.

Final Reveal

The final stage is when my team and I start to breathe a sigh of relief and put finishing touches in the space that will bring the room to life. In this case, we added yellow plush towels that play beautifully against green tiles and stark white walls. We brought in plants to honor the feel for natural elements in a replenishing space. We stuck to a clean, minimalist look, but added paintings of birds to enhance the calming, centering power of nature.

Our Favorite Products

When creating a replenishing, curative bathroom space like this one, I love clean and well-structured items, but also like to tie in surprising pieces that strike. Here are some of my must-have items to use in a replenishing bathroom redesign.

The Al Lati Lights by Federico de Majo are unique in that they can be installed on a wall or ceiling. These blown-glass, satin finished fixtures cast a calming glow but provide enough light so the space never feels dim.

Though the Nut stool by Pols Potten looks like wood, it is actually fashioned from metal, perfect for a moist space like a bathroom or any other spa-like space. Texture and pattern mingle adding a surprisingly tactile twist to this polished piece.

A fun, yet fitting nod to plant life, the Feuille Bath Mat / Rug by Abyss & Habidecorin green adds a pop of color that doesn’t stray from the overall use of biophilic elements. 100% cotton and machine washable, this bath mat provides an intentional, yet playful juxtaposition to just nearly all any homogenous schemes.
